What is a photogram/Rayograph?
Photograms or Rayographs are made without a camera they are made by placing images on top of a photo sensitive surface and exposing it to light for 5 seconds. Where there are objects on the paper the paper would be protected from the light, this means that where there were objects it would leave it white or pale grey depending on how translucent the object was. If you don't put any objects on top of the paper all of the paper would be black. Anna Atkins made images called cyanotypes which are similar to photograms she used treated paper that could be exposed to sunlight and developed in water. A artist called Man Ray gave photograms the name Rayographs because he thought he created them. |

How do you make a photogram/Rayograph?
The first thing you need to do is get some objects that you want to be on your photogram, You can use things around your house or things outside try to make sure that they are not to translucent otherwise the photogram won't work. Once you have picked you objects you need to arrange them on a piece of light sensitive photographic paper then you need to expose it to light for a few seconds I exposed mine for five seconds. You then need to put it 3 chemicals first developer then stop and then fix then you need to wash and leave it to dry. You should end up with a black white and grey photo that shows the objects you placed on the paper.
